There are three levels of license for amateur radio operators. The introductory is Technician, which allows very limited HF operation, but allows access to all VHF and higher frequencies. The next level is General, which allows basic HF operation. Finally, Amateur Extra gives you access to all of the frequencies allowed amateur radio operators.
See the links below for more information on how to earn your license for each level.
Once you feel you are ready, it is time to take your exam. Exams in the Central Georgia area are listed on my Calendar. If you’re not from the area, you can search for a local exam on the ARRL webpage.
You will need:
- The testing fee (Typically $14-15 based on the exam administrator)
- Photo ID
- FCC FRN or Social Security Number
- Copy of current license, if applicable
Upon completing the exam, the VE team will grade it and let you know the results.
